Our present achievements in 2009
BDC won every classical ballet group section at the recent Brisbane Eisteddfod winning the Classical Aggregate. The Under 12 and Under 15 dancers not only came 1st but also 2nd with their second classical group in the section. BDC also placed 2nd and 3rd in every slow modern section they entered and also placed in both jazz sections.
BDC had 2 Finalists at the Alana Haines Australasian Awards in New Zealand in April. Both Douglas Stewart and Lucas Brinin were awarded a scholarship with the ABS (Australian Ballet School).
Four BDC students will be on stage with the Paris Opera Ballet in their upcoming performance of 'La Bayadere'. We all look forward to seeing Lydia Melmeth, Douglas Stewart, Sam O'Brien and Sophia Anderson on stage with this internationally renowned company.
BDC received outstanding RAD Major (Vocational) exam results in Brisbane's 1st session. Out of 17 BDC students who sat for an exam 13 received a distinction. A special mention to Saranja Crowe who received 95% and Natasha Richardson who received 93% for their Intermediate RAD exam.
Rhys Humphreys was the winner of the Sunshine Coast Repertoire and Runner-Up in the BPAC (Brisbane Performance Arts Centre) Senior Ballet Scholarship. Rhys has also been invited to attend classes with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company. Rhys will leave for the Akademie des Tanz, in Mannheim, Germany after completing his Solo Seal exam on Sunday 16th August at the Schonell Theatre.
BDC & ADPI had 4 out of the 8 finalists in the Senior Section of the BPAC (Brisbane Performing Arts Centre Ballet Scholarships). Congratulations to Rhys Humphreys, Martha Godber, Joshua Limmer & Sam O'Brien for their achievement in obtaining a place in this stunning line up.
Young BDC dancers Saranja Crowe & Kate Cunningham were also finalists in the BPAC Intermediate Ballet Scholarship - which they will be able to enter again next year as they are a year younger than the older competitors. Also Congratulations to our junior finalists Tamaki Matsuo-Hoobin and Sophie Cunningham. Tamaki took the Runner-Up award in this section and Sophie the encouragement award. Other special awards were awarded to Josh Limmer who won the scholarship at Brent Street, Paris Hoey and Ellie Norton
Rikki Mason - will start at the prestigious rudra-Bejart School in Lausanne, Switzerland in September where he will continue his studies in classical ballet and contemporary dance as well as kendo (Japanese martial arts), singing and percussion.
Martha Godber won all classical sections in her age group at the recent Wynnum Eisteddfod and went on to receive the 'Most Promising Classical Dancer'. Paris Hoey was the Classical Champion at the same Eisteddfod with Martha taking the runner-up prize. Both girls also did exceptionally well at the Brisbane Eisteddfod taking many prizes in all sections they competed in. Saranja Crowe has also had great success at recent Eisteddfods winning her classical solo at both the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane Eisteddfods and also placing in every section and winning the Slow Modern section at the Brisbane Eisteddfod. Saranja received the most outstanding Slow Modern dancer at the Brisbane Eisteddfod.
Isabella Elordi commenced full-time training in Level 4 at the ABS (Australian Ballet School). Lucas Brinin will join her next year in Level 5.
